We are proud to share that the work of our staff and partners is featured in the January 2019 issue of Fortune Magazine.
Watch the video here.
The video and article highlights Scott Shoupe and John Craft of MACED’s New Energy intern program. Funded by the Appalachian Regional Commission, the program offers former coal industry employees six-month internships fielding positions that advance energy efficiency in the region. The program’s aim is that they will be hired by their placement organization or they will be prepared to start their own energy business at the internship’s end.
The issue also highlights downtown revitalization and social enterprise efforts in downtown Hazard. “There’s naysayers. But there’s also that group of people here who refuse to give up on Hazard and Appalachia in general,” Joey McKenney, the founder of Appalachian Apparel Co and 606 Coffee, based in Hazard, describes in the article. We are proud to have an office in downtown Hazard and to be involved in the area’s revitalization efforts.
We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Fortune for spending time in Perry County in order to thoughtfully cover our region. For more information on the New Energy Intern program, please click here.
