Sustainability 101 Workshops
Sept. 15, 1-3 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.

Organizations and individuals can learn about using resources more efficiently, reducing waste, improving personal health, and finding and adding more value to their community at Sustainability 101 workshops, scheduled for Thursday, September 15. The free workshops are sponsored by West Virginia Sustainable Communities and are being held from 1 to 3 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Charleston Area Alliance, located at 1116 Smith St.
The two workshops will feature interactive sessions administered by professional trainers from Bridgemont Community and Technical College in Montgomery. Participants can expect to go home with lots of excitement and great ideas to improve their "Triple Bottom Line" of economic, environmental, and social prosperity.
To date, over 200 individuals attended the Sustainability 101 workshops around the state. Many have been inspired to become healthier, to be more engaged in the community, and to save money through smarter resource consumption. Past participants commented that "they found great opportunities for growing our communities and making a difference," and "heard a lot of good ways to improve."
These workshops are being offered in conjunction with the 2011 Kanawha Valley Sustainability Fair. The Fair takes place on September 24th from 10 am to 4 pm at the Columbia Gas Transmission Building in Charleston. Last year, over 2,800 visitors enjoyed a day of food, fun, exhibits, and hands-on experience related to all facets of community well-being. Workshop participants can register for either the first or second workshop – the evening workshop is a repeat of the afternoon program. The workshops are free, but space is limited to 30 participants for each session.
