The Toll of Coal: Cradle to Grave Impacts of Coal on Human Health
at Marshall University’s Campus Christian Center , #1 John Marshall Drive, Huntington, WV
Join scientists, health professionals, students, coalfield residents and others. We’ll explore how the entire cycle of coal use impacts human health — impacts from mining, “cleaning,” transportation and burning, to coal ash disposal.
Engage with Panels, Interactive Workshops and our Keynote Speaker, 20-year environmental justice advocate Rita Harris, with Sierra Club’s Environmental Justice Program.
Panelists include Dr. Ben Stout of Wheeling Jesuit University; Dr. Michael Hendryx of West Virginia University; Dr. Michael M. Kostenko, DO from Daniels, WV; Maria Lambert, resident of Prenter, WV, where community members believe coal-slurry-contaminated groundwater has impacted people’s health; retired deep miner and OVEC volunteer Chuck Nelson; and Truman Hurt, with Kentuckians For The Commonwealth.
