Introduction to Solar Water Heating

September 14 – 15, 2010 Location: Frankfort, Ky

8:30 am—5:00 pm each day

Fee: $225 Instructor: Bob Ramlow, Author of Solar Water Heating

NABCEP Training Hours & CEU’s: 14 hours

This two-day course with Bob Ramlow will give students a strong introduction to solar water heating systems. Bob Ramlow is an ISPQ Independent Master Trainer in Solar Thermal and a NABCEP Certified Solar Thermal Installer. He has more than 30 years experience designing and installing solar systems and has been a driving force in the growth of solar thermal use in the Midwest.

Advanced Solar Water Heating

September 16 – 17, 2010 Location: Frankfort, Ky

8:30 am – 5:00 pm each day

Fee: $225 Instructor: Bob Ramlow, Author of Solar Water Heating

NABCEP Training Hours & CEU’s: 14 hours

This workshop will address advanced issues in the design and installation of solar thermal systems used for domestic water heating, space heating, and other purposes. Topics to be addressed include:

Solar thermal space heating systems

– design and installation practices

– radiant floor heating systems

– high mass solar radiant floor heating systems

– other heat distribution system options

Gas tankless water heaters in solar thermal systems

– System monitoring and metering

– Component Innovations

– controllers

– variable speed pumps

Prerequisites required: Attendance at our “Introduction to Solar Water Heating” class or equivalent prior training/experience.

Photovoltaics Hands-On Installation Workshop

September 25 – 26, 2010 Location: J.D. Patton ATC, Kenton County, Ky

8:30 am—5:00 pm each day

Fee: $125 Instructor: Tom Pitts, M.E.

NABCEP Training Hours: 14 hours

During this workshop participants will install a small off-grid solar electric system with battery back-up on a trailer. Instructor Tom Pitts is a Kentucky-licensed Master Electrician and the electrical instructor at the J.D. Patton Area Technology Center, where the training will be hosted. J.D. Patton ATC is on the campus of Kenton County School District, which has several innovative high performance schools and is presently installing one of the largest solar PV arrays in Kentucky.

Attendance limited to 12 people.

Prerequisite: Attendance in our Introduction to Solar Photovoltaics class or equivalent prior training/experience.

Introduction to Solar Photovoltaics

October 26 – 27, 2010 Location: Frankfort, Ky

8:30 am—5:00 pm each day

Fee: $225

Instructor: Chris LaForge, ISPQ Certified Solar PV Instructor and NABCEP certified Solar PV Installer

NABCEP Training Hours & CEU’s: 14 hours

CEU’s for Ky Licensed M.E & E.E.: 14 hours

Participants in this two-day workshop will gain a basic understanding of solar electric (photovoltaic) design and installation principles.

Solar Site Assessments & PV System Design

October 28, 2010 Location: Frankfort, Ky

8:30 am—5:00 pm

Fee: $115

Instructor: Chris LaForge, ISPQ Certified Solar PV Instructor and NABCEP certified Solar PV Installer

NABCEP Training Hours & CEU’s: 7 hours

CEU’s for Ky Licensed M.E & E.E.: 7 hours

This workshop will provide an in-depth discussion of solar site assessments and PV system sizing and design.

Prerequisite: Attendance in our Introduction to Solar Photovoltaics class or equivalent prior training/experience.

Solar PV and the National Electric Code

October 29, 2010 Location: Frankfort, Ky

8:30 am—5:00 pm

Fee: $115

Instructor: Chris LaForge, ISPQ Certified Solar PV Instructor and NABCEP certified Solar PV Installer

NABCEP Training Hours & CEU’s: 7 hours

CEU’s for Ky Licensed M.E & E.E.: 7 hours

This course presents an in-depth analysis of issues for PV systems relating to NEC Section 690. Code issues in PV system design and specification will be covered as well as issues concerning product requirements, wiring, grounding and labeling. PV equipment will be on-hand for demonstration.

Prerequisite: Attendance in our Introduction to Solar Photovoltaics class or equivalent prior training/experience. (No prerequisites required for code officials).

NABCEP Training Hours Availability

These workshops are presented in accordance with NABCEP standards and follow the NABCEP PV or Solar Thermal Task Analysis. Each workshop will provide the indicated number of training hours which participants may use towards meeting the eligibility requirements to sit for the NABCEP PV or Solar Thermal exam.

For current NABCEP certified installers seeking Continuing Education Units, some of these workshops will also provide CEU hours, as indicated.

Workshop participants will receive a certificate indicating the number of hours of training completed upon completion of each workshop.
