From Farm to School in Central Appalachia

Connecting local farmers to local schools seems to be a win-win-win situation – farmers gain access to a large, stable market for their products, children have the opportunity to eat more fresh, healthy foods, and more of the school's food budget goes to support the local economy. Of course, farm to school programs are not without their challenges as well as their benefits.
If you are interested in learning more about how farms and schools are connecting across the region, please join the Central Appalachian Network for an interactive online presentation on Friday, October 7th, from 12:00 – 1:30 pm.

Kathlyn Terry, Executive Director of Appalachian Sustainable Development in Abingdon, Virginia;
Bekki Leigh, Coordinator of the Office of Child Nutrition for the West Virginia Department of Education; and
Tina Garland, Farm to School Program Coordinator for the Kentucky Department of Agriculture.
