Here's a great story from the Charleston Gazette, profiling the Green Wheeling Initiative. At two years old, the group began as a way to support local foods and community gardens, but now is affiliated with other efforts, including a natural parenting group. As the founder of the organization, Terry Sheldon, describes it:
"We're just in a very timely position to do something that's badly needed in the greater Ohio Valley," says Sheldon, "which is to take a post-industrial culture that's in collapse and turn it into something that could become wonderful for everybody: a green-collared economy that will keep people in the area."
Community groups like this are popping up more and more, and we want to hear about them! Who are the people and organizations doing great work in your communities?
